Ambient slices
a series of playlists I’ve been maintaining since September 2023.
Context
Ambient slices is a series of playlists I’ve been maintaining since September 2023. The idea is simple, over a couple of week I compile a playlist with ambient tracks I’m enjoying at the time.
At the time of writing, I’m on the 8th instalment.
Jon Hopkins
Candles by Jon Hopkins played when I had my Spotify library on shuffle, and that’s what prompted this post.
I also like the idea of picking out some music to spin ahead of the week🫡
Ouri
I don’t remember how The More I Feel ended up in my library, but I’m glad it did.
I found more Ouri while writing this.
Listen to figure profane by Ouri and Zach Frampton
Pop Ambient
Pop Ambient is a compilation series from Kompakt co-founder, Wolfgang Voigt. It’s been running since 2001 and has been self described as:
a digital encyclopaedia of pop ambient music history that is second to none.
I’ve been slowly combing through these compilations over the years, and have so much more to share from Kompakt!
Dettinger’s Repeater from Pop Ambient 2001 is today’s highlight. This track featured in my first ambient slice playlist.
While we’re here, I’d recommend one of my library staples, the album Intershop by Dettiner. An absolute classic, in my books. I experienced it as stripped back techno, spanning across a few sub-genres. It feels like a masterclass in ambient, minimal, and clicks & cuts style techno.
Space Afrika
I haven’t listened to any liveset by Space Afrika before, this may be a good start.
Closing track
Atoms song by Teebs and Thomas Stankiewicz
